R. Kelly

I suppose it isn't particularly relevant to anything, but my favorite R. Kelly lyric is from the "Ignition" remix. Not from "Sex Weed" or "I Like the Crotch on You" or even "Sex Planet", but "Ignition". I love R. Kelly both ironically and unironically, which is the best way to appreciate a song built on the not-quite-double entendre (it's kind of a 1.5th entendre, 1.75th at most) of the dude sticking his "key" into a lady's "ignition".

The best line in R. Kelly's discography is this: "Cristal poppin' in the stretch Navigator / We got food everywhere, as if the party was catered." R. Kelly is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, a big enough celebrity that video documentation of criminal activity is not sufficient to put him in jail, and in his wildest fantasies of the best party ever, there's a lot of food, as if party was catered. Food can certainly make a good party great - I wouldn't necessarily put it at the top of a list of stuff to brag about in my fantasy party, but, whatever, R. Kelly knows what he wants. What makes this line so wonderful, though, is that R. Kelly the superstar's party isn't catered, there's food everywhere as if it was, but it's not. He goes far enough to wish it was catered, but can't really bring himself to go all the way. The party isn't good enough to actually be catered, but it's almost that good. And, you know, R. Kelly could probably afford to get it catered if that's what he really wanted.
